When it comes to adopting animals, it’s a sad but true fact that older ladies and gentlemen are often overlooked in favour of their younger counterparts, simply because of their age.
Of course, you want your beloved pet to be around for as long as possible but if you only ever consider rescuing a puppy, you could be missing out on some truly wonderful canine companionship as a result.
Older dogs are also a really great choice for any first-time dog owners who aren’t sure how to go about training a very young puppy, which can be a very full-on and time-consuming journey to go on. One common worry when adopting an older dog is that you won’t be able to bond with it in the same way as you would with a puppy, but this actually couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, when you bring an old dog home for the first time, you might well be surprised at how quickly a connection is felt between the two of you.
You’ll also get the instant reward of helping out a pooch in need. Younger dogs and puppies get a lot of interest and this can leave older ones out in the cold, but by bringing one home you’ll be making a very real difference to a life – and you can’t say fairer than that!
